Michael Capellas, CEO of strategic technology advisory firm Capellas Partners, joined the JDA Board in October 2016 and was named Chairman in January 2017. Capellas currently serves on the Board of Cisco, Flextronics, and MuleSoft, and on the Advisory Boards of Deutsche Bank and Kony. He is also a Senior Advisor to Blackstone.
Capellas’ career as a global technology leader has spanned from innovative technology start-ups to large corporate turnarounds. For 15 years he worked for Schlumberger, followed by positions at Oracle and SAP. In 1999, Capellas was named CEO of Compaq Computer Corporation and in 2000 added the title of Chairman. In the following years, he served as President of Hewlett Packard, Chairman and CEO of Worldcom (renamed MCI), and Chairman and CEO of First Data Corporation. From 2009-2012, Capellas served as founding Chairman and CEO of VCE, the Virtual Computing Company, a joint venture between Cisco, EMC, and VMware which developed and commercialized an innovative platform for cloud computing. While at VCE, he also served as Co-Chair of the Federal Commission on Deployment of the Cloud, comprised of 71 leading companies and universities, who finalized a set of recommendations for driving U.S. cloud adoption. He graduated from Kent State University and lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
Lloyd (Buzz) Waterhouse joined the JDA Board of Directors and New Mountain Capital as a senior advisor in 2015 and was named vice chairman in January 2017. Waterhouse was most recently the CEO of McGraw-Hill Education, one of the world’s largest learning sciences companies. He has been a strong proponent of re-imaging learning, leveraging his deep experience in technology with his love for education. These efforts resulted in the transformation of McGraw into the leader in outcomes-based, digital learning solutions. He was also responsible for the separation of McGraw-Hill Education from McGraw-Hill Financial, standing up the company and its subsequent sale to Apollo Global Management. Earlier in his career, Waterhouse was CEO and chairman of The Reynolds & Reynolds Company, the leading provider of automotive retailing solutions. Before Reynolds, he held numerous roles at IBM. He led their strategy and business development functions during Lou Gerstner’s tenure and subsequent turn-around, launched IBM Global Services, and was president of the Asia Pacific Services Corporation.
Girish Rishi is Chief Executive Officer of JDA Software and a member of the Board of Directors. Rishi joined JDA in January 2017 from Tyco International, where he was responsible for the firm’s global retail solutions business and North America building automation business, which had more than $4 billion in annual revenue. Prior to his role at Tyco, Rishi was senior vice president for the Enterprise division of Motorola Solutions where he transitioned the portfolio to new application frameworks that delivered a compelling user experience. Previously, he held positions of increasing responsibility in early-stage, high growth companies, including at Symbol Technologies, where he led the EMEA theater. He serves as a board member of Digi International, is a member of the board of directors at UI Labs, and the board of regents at the University of Hartford. He holds a master’s degree in public policy from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hartford and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Mumbai.
Naveen Bhatia, principal in Blackstone’s Tactical Opportunities Group, joined the JDA Board in November 2016. Prior to joining Tactical Opportunities in 2013, Bhatia was with 40 North Industries LLC, a private investment firm where he focused on special situations equity and debt investments, both public and private. Bhatia currently serves as a director of RG Barry Corporation, PMI Group and the Chairman of the Board of Cotton Holdings, Inc. Since 2010, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School. Bhatia received a B.A. in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Christos M. Cotsakos joined the JDA Board of Directors in 2014. He has been a senior advisor at New Mountain since 2013. Dr. Cotsakos is founding chairman, CEO and president of EndPlay, Inc. He is also founder, chairman and CEO of Pennington Ventures, LLC. Formerly, Dr. Cotsakos served as chairman and CEO of E*Trade Group, Inc., where he led the company to pioneer the personal online investment market. He also served as global co-CEO of ACNielsen, founding co-managing partner at ArrowPath Ventures and served in several senior executive positions at Federal Express Corporation. Dr. Cotsakos holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of London. He also received an MBA, summa cum laude from Pepperdine University and a B.A., cum laude in Communications from William Paterson University. In 2001, William Paterson University named its business school the Cotsakos College of Business in honor of Dr. Cotsakos. He is a decorated combat veteran who served with the 101st Airborne Infantry in Vietnam. Dr. Cotsakos is on the board of directors for Inmar, Inc., a New Mountain portfolio company, and is the chairman of its Technology and Innovation Committee.
Peter Masucci became a member of the JDA Board in 2010. He is managing director of New Mountain Capital, having joined in 2004. He was previously associated with KKR, where he focused on private equity investments across a number of industries. From 1997 to 2000, he was an analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions and Corporate Finance Departments of Goldman Sachs, where he evaluated and executed a number of strategic transactions. He received his B.A. with highest distinction in Finance with an Accounting emphasis from the University of Iowa where he was an Academic All-American. Masucci received his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is chairman of the board of SNL Financial, a director of Inmar and Valet Waste, and was previously involved with Deltek.
Viral Patel joined the JDA Board in October 2016. He is a Managing Director in Blackstone’s Tactical Opportunities Fund. Prior to joining Tactical Opportunities in 2012, Patel was a Managing Director with Blackstone Advisory Partners where he focused on structured finance transactions across several industries including financial institutions, consumer, media, and healthcare. Before joining Blackstone, he was a member of the Credit Suisse and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Structured Products businesses. Patel graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a B.S. in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering. He also serves on the Boards of Hidrovias and Penn Engineering.
Jack Qian joined the JDA Board in October 2016. He has been a director at New Mountain Capital since 2007. Qian previously worked in the Global Technology Group at Morgan Stanley in New York. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, in Economics and Mathematics from Yale University in 2005. Qian is currently a director of IRI, Equian, and CIOX Health.
Anushka M. Sunder joined the JDA Board in November 2016. Since joining Blackstone’s Private Equity Group in 2013, she has focused primarily on the Technology and Healthcare sectors. Before Blackstone, Sunder was an associate at TPG Capital, where she evaluated and executed private equity investments across several industries. Prior to TPG, she worked in investment banking at Goldman, Sachs & Co. within the Financial Institutions Group. She is also a Director of Optiv. Sunder received an A.B. in Economics from Harvard College, where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
